Our foster puppies are gone. It’s really been like a week and a half since the last puppy went to his home. And our house has gone back to normal. Our dogs don’t really seem to miss the puppies although they are not nearly as playful as they were when they had the puppies to play with. The day we took the last puppy to his home we went to the pet store and bought our dogs a new toy. I said it was to compensate for their now lack of a live puppy play toy but I really think it was to make me feel better. I’m really not sure if we’ll do it again or not. I definitely have a new appreciation for adult dogs. I can leave them alone for a period of time and be fairly certain they’re not going to eat the couch or my shoes or the computer cord. And the cats are happier now. They hate our dogs therefore have no tolerance for additional canines in our house. Arguments can be made for both sides, to foster again or not. Right now I feel like our priority should be our animals. For heaven’s sake…we have four! And the cats are getting up their in age…Jade will be turning 12. On the other hand, when GPG sends out those emails about the animals on the streets that can’t be rescued until they have a foster home lined up, it definitely tugs at my heart. I’m just afraid that if we foster again, we’ll end up keeping the animal. And as I stated…we have FOUR already…
June 12th, 2009 The Love of My Life
I posted this picture on my facebook page but thought I should put it on my blog also. This is how I found him last night. He fell asleep with the remote balanced on his head. I turned the light on and took about 10 pictures. He never woke up. When he finally did wake up, he didn’t think it was nearly as funny as I did. I’m not even sure he remembers this happening. Too funny! I love you GP!

June 9th, 2009 Bitter Sweet
One of our foster puppies went to his forever home last week. The other puppy goes to his forever home next week. It’s been very hard letting these little guys go. No matter how much work they are, it’s hard not to get attached to an animal living in your home. At least that’s the case for me. But it’s bitter sweet. Because these puppies are going to great homes. Both of their adoptive families have children. They are going to have great lives. Being able to choose the family that these puppies are going to has made this process so much sweeter. We get to know their new families and see where they are going to live. It’s been such a blessing to be a part of this. It’s been a great experience.
Thank you Gateway Pet Guardians for trusting us with your babies that you work so hard to rescue and allowing us to be foster parents.

May 27th, 2009 Puppy Illiteracy
I am puppy illiterate. Or maybe just naive. Since we got the puppies they have been a lot of work but for the most part they slept, ate, pooped, played, slept, pooped, slept, played, slept. Well I have discovered that they were just in the “infant” stage of puppy hood. They are now in the “toddler” stage.
Monday (Memorial Day) they pretty much slept all day. That should have been my first clue. Tuesday they were like different dogs. They literally changed overnight. Now they play and play and play. And get into EVERYTHING. It’s hilarious. Probably mostly because I know they’re not here to stay. This week they turned 8 weeks old. I think puppies are adopted out when they are 8 weeks old because that’s when they become little monsters. Their owners up to that point are now ready to get rid of them and send them to their forever homes.
Speaking of their forever homes…we have adoptions pending for both of them. It’s a long process to find the right home and to thoroughly check them out. But we two potential families that we like. Our adventures in puppy fostering are quickly coming to an end.
